An Officer-In-Charge was captured on camera resorting to physical and verbal abuse towards an adult woman who confessed her love in front of the officer and expressed her wish to marry her lover.
The Officer Harish Pathak took moral policing into his own hands as the other junior cops turned mute spectators to the abuse that took place on July 22 at the police station premises in Barhait, Sahibganj district.
The victim Rakhee was summoned by the police officer as the father of her lover remained in the police custody on charges of her kidnapping.
Soon after the girl expressed her wish to marry her lover Ramu Mandal hell broke loose and the cop lost his temper resorting to the physical violence.
The video shows Harish pulling Rakhee by the hair and slapping her on the face in spite of knowing that she was an adult and had her right to choose her partner legally. He also abuses her in the worst possible way along with the physical attack.
A person who stood nearby captured the entire incident on his mobile phone which later came out as strong evidence against the police officer exposing his power-hungry face.
The officer has also been known for his arrogant display of power in the past on several occasions.
The senior police officials too stayed mum on the incident for several hours in spite that Rakhee had submitted a written complaint against the rogue officer. No action was taken until the video surfaced online and his conduct was exposed forcing the officers to take an action.
A person soon Tweeted the Chief Minister Hemant Soren regarding the incident who then took the cognizance of the matter and immediately directed the higher police officials to take strong action against him.
Within minutes, the cop was suspended by S.P Anuranjan Kispotta which should have been done earlier as the girl had written the letter directly to Kispotta on July 25th itself.
Kispotta later said, “The cop was suspended and sent to the police lines, I have also directed the Sub Divisional Police officer Barharwa to investigate into the matter and submit a report at the earliest.”
The former Chief Minister Babu Lal Marandi also took a dig and asked to initiate a CBI probe pertaining to several other cases pending against Harish.
