In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman from Assam was not only held under illegal police custody but was also brutally thrashed in the DLF Phase 1 police station in Gurugram in Haryana.
The North-Eastern Residents living in the area and an NGO took to protest against the police brutality in front of the office of the Police Commissioner Mohammad Akil.
On seeing the strong protest, the police commissioner sent 4 policemen stationed on leave. The Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station was also one among the officials sent on leave.
The husband has alleged that the physical assault of the police has left her severely injured in the genital areas due to which she could not stand properly.
Her husband said, “Following a complaint the ASI Madhubala asked her to appear in the police station post which she took her inside and removed her clothes, later she thrashed her brutally with belts and batons.”
“She was beaten for the crime she didn’t even commit. The officials also pressurized her to admit the crime.”
The woman works as a domestic help in the DLF Phase 1 area. One of the house owners in Block H levelled an allegation of theft against her and two other domestic helps on Tuesday.
Her husband later called the North=East helpline for help after which around 200 people gathered in the police station on Wednesday and demand strict action against the erring officials.
