Moirangthem Loiya, This Man Dedicates 18 Years And Replants 300 Acre Forest

An environment enthusiast Moirangthem Loiya, a 45-year-old man from Manipur has taken to replant an entire forest in Punshilok in Imphal’s Langol hill range all by himself.

Since the past 18 years, he has been planting the area spread across 300 acres where around 250 species of plants and 25 species of bamboos grow.

According to Moirangthem Loiya, the forest is the home to all kinds of birds, snakes and wild animals.

His efforts are appreciated by the Principal Chief conservator of forest of Manipur Kereilhouvi Angami.

‘Punshilok’ means ‘Spring of Life’ and Moirangthem said that he welcomes everyone who is a nature lover and are interested or engaged in reforestation. He said he started the work in 2002 and then there was not even a single tree in the area which has now populated into a dense forest.

Moirangthem used to work as a medical representative before taking up the tedious task to save the wild. He now lives in a small hut which he built by himself.
