UP: Home Guards Save 75-Year-Old Cancer Patient From Committing Suicide

In a heart-warming incident, two home guards saved a man with oral cancer from committing suicide in the Etah district of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident is of the Sunna village in the district near Hazara canal where the victim had allegedly gone to commit suicide.

The police in charge and the Station House Officer Atul Kumar Gautam has now recommended the names of the home guards identified as Raj Kumar Bahadur and Bhikham Singh for commendation.

The SHO said, “The two home guards were on duty when they spotted Lalaram, a resident of Pamas village of Dehat Kotwali police jurisdiction. He was attempting to jump off the bridge into the canal after crossing the safety railing. Due to the prompt response of the home guards who grabbed him from his arm, the old man was saved.”

“The man was taken to an eatery and was offered food before been questioned about the reason for his extreme act. He claimed that he was unhappy with his illness and family quarrels. He was suffering from mouth cancer and his family cannot afford his medical treatment expenses. After consoling the victim, his two sons Mahesh and Jagdish were called to Pilua police station, and were reprimanded for letting their father alone.”
